Killer Ab Workout – A Lifestyle of Exercise and Diet for Six Pack Success
A set of six pack abs is the ultimate
status symbol of bodily fitness and health. Nothing symbolizes hard work
and healthy living quite like a set of rock hard abs, not to mention how
good you look with your short off. Unfortunately many people do not
understand what a killer ab workout entails and find themselves
struggling to reach an unobtainable goal.
But this goal can be achieved if you change your mindset and stop
following the herd. The herd is all those people who have wasted their
hard earned money on the latest gimmick that shows up on all those
infomercials. Starvations diets, fat burning pills, strange exercise
machines that twist, turn, and bend your midsection like a pretzel
promising to turn that flabby belly into beach body hunkdom.
The truth of the matter is a killer ab workout is much more then doing
just ab specific exercises. You can do all the sit-ups, crunches, and
other abdominal exercises you want but these are the least effective
route to getting that set of six pack abs.
Here's why. To be able to see those strong abs you've been working so
tirelessly you have to reduce your body fat. You can have the strongest
abdominals in the world but with to much body fat nobody will ever see
them. For men this is around 10% body fat or less and for women it's in
the 16 to 18% range.
So just what is a killer ab workout? The answer might surprise you. When
you talk about burning fat most people immediately think cardio or
aerobic exercise. They hit the treadmill or elliptical machine; go
jogging or any number of low intensity cardio routines. This burns some
fat but will not give you the results you are looking for.
The single best way to burn that body fat while building s strong
midsection is with high intensity resistance training. You need to work
your entire body and in particular build and strengthen your largest
muscle groups for optimum fat burning metabolism. This is where most
people fail, not understanding how their metabolism works. By tapping
into your own internal fat burning engine you will se the results you
want.
And to do that you need to build lean muscle mass because nothing burns
fat quite like muscle. To do this it is best to start with body weight
exercises. Squats, lunges, and pushups using nothing more then your own
body weight will get you off to a good start. As your muscles increase
in strength you can start using weights to increase the resistance and
build muscle faster.
A side benefit to doing these types of exercises is core strength. Your
core, or abdominals, back, and hip muscles, is called into action to
stabilize your body during your weight lifting routine. This contributes
to those firm sculpted abs without the need to do ab specific exercises.
The other aspect to a killer ab workout has little to do with working
out and everything to do with what you eat. Just like your mom always
said, "you are what you eat." Nutrient dense healthy foods are the way
to go. Not only do they give your body the nutrition it needs the right
kinds of foods can actually boost your metabolism and help you burn fat.
Eating healthy is not a diet, in fact the last thing you want to do is
limit your caloric intake to much. Doing so will slow your metabolic
engine and lead to a loss of lean muscle which will work against
everything you are trying to accomplish.
The key to a killer ab workout is changing your mindset and lifestyle to
incorporate healthy living to build the body, and abs, that you have
always wanted. It is a lifelong commitment that must take a priority in
your life if you are to not only reach your desired results but keep
them as well.
