Why Spot Reduction for Weight Loss Doesn't Work
If you have a problem areas on your body that just seem to hold onto their fatty
deposits you are not alone. Many people, even those at their ideal body weight,
fight these problem areas and never seem to win because they are not attacking
them the right way. They spend their time and money trying the latest diets,
creams or exercise gadgets to make those unsightly bulges disappear.
What many people don’t understand is that trying to spot reduce by targeting
specific exercises to problem body areas does not work. The body is a system and
you need to address the entire system if you want optimum results.
So why doesn’t spot reduction work?
One of the problems with people today is they want immediate results and because
of that a whole market of weight loss myths and fads have taken advantage of
this desire. The reality is that working one area of the body does not address
the issues of the entire bodies system.
One of the most important factors in losing weight and body fat is eating a
healthy diet. If you have problems with weight gain chances are you are not
eating a balanced healthy diet. The food you eat is the fuel that feeds your
body’s engine. If you choose to eat unhealthy your body will respond in kind,
storing fat where you don’t want it. Most people lose their battle with their
bulge at the grocery store. No amount of exercise can overcome poor eating
habits and the fat they leave behind.
Let’s look at that one area everyone wants to improve on. Guys want those six
pack abs, girls want a firm-flat stomach and both sexes go to all sorts of
extremes trying to gain them.
Doing hundreds of crunches and sit-ups will strengthen the abdominal muscles but
doing them will not burn that layer of fat that resides there. Your body does
not use its fat stores that way. What needs to happen is an exercise program
that works not only the abdominals and core muscles but the major muscle groups
throughout the body. This can be accomplished with weight or resistance training
and cardio or aerobic workouts.
If you combine these three things
• Healthy Diet
• Resistance Training
• Cardio Exercise
You will greatly increase your chances of loosing not only overall body fat but
also the fat that has accumulated in those problem areas. Reducing overall body
fat and increasing muscle is a great way to not only have a healthy body but
also a body you can be proud of.
If you have tried spot reduction in the past but never see any results then
maybe it’s time to put in the extra effort to get the body you want. There are
no short cuts to a great body. You will have to make not only lifestyle changes
but also put in the time and effort required to create a truly healthy body.
